About Wellbeing for Health

Wellbeing for Health is a website designed as an easy to use hub for tools and resources related to workplace wellbeing in the New Zealand health sector.

Promoting the positive drivers of workplace wellbeing is a key priority for DHBs and our union partners. These are what enable our people to do and be their very best and respond to the challenges of poor wellbeing. We have a collective commitment to create environments in which all our people can thrive at work.

These tools and resources are for you to use. We invite you to explore the site - either by browsing the sections and subsections or using the Search function located in the top right to directly locate information on the topics important to you. If you have any feedback or suggestions on content to add to the site please Contact Us.

“All of us who work in health have an interest in creating work environments that enable us to be our very best. Workplaces that prioritise wellbeing have better engagement, higher productivity and reduced absenteeism. We are keen to share resources that enable this to happen and this website is an opportunity to introduce, or strengthen, practices and policies that will lead to improved wellbeing. We are pleased to be working in partnership with our union colleagues so that we can make the greatest difference in having healthy and thriving environments for ourselves and ultimately, those we provide care to.”

Kath Cook, Chair of the 20 DHB CEO Group

“We all know that we thrive in a workplace culture that allows genuine and open discussion on the things that matter. Workplace wellbeing is one of those things that matter. Getting it right requires real dialogue about what we need to change and how we want that change to take place.

This website is a resource to support discussion of the work environments we want in health and how we can achieve them. There is a real opportunity for us to join together to create great workplaces, which in turn will allow us to support each other and deliver excellent care to our fellow New Zealanders. I invite you to use this resource and to provide feedback and further resources so we can all share and build on actions that have a positive impact.”

Richard Wagstaff, President, NZ Council of Trade Unions

“The effectiveness of our teams across the whole of the health sector is determined by many factors, strong among these is the wellbeing of the workforce so that they can transform the skills and knowledge they possess into improved outcomes for the people we work with.

As unions and DHBs in partnership through the National Bi-partite Action Group, we are totally committed to understanding ways to improve the wellbeing of the workforce and to put those ways into action through our collective efforts.

This website provides a readily available repository for actions we will utilise for the benefit of our workforce and members, leading to even further gains for people requiring care.”

Jim Green, Chair, National Bi-partite Action Group
